The Mauritanian Football Federation has announced that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology will be introduced at the start of the 2024-2025 sports season.
In a statement, the federation explained that preparations for implementing VAR in Mauritanian national competitions are progressing rapidly. The VAR project is considered a priority for the federation, which is intensively preparing by organizing a series of training sessions.
One of these training sessions was held in April in Nouakchott, supervised by experts from FIFA. The second session took place in Rabat at the beginning of July, in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and FIFA.
The federation concluded that the next phase of the project will focus on installing VAR technology, followed by a final assessment of the process, including referees’ knowledge, technology monitoring, protocol, and stadiums. This will ensure that Mauritania meets the standards required by FIFA.
