Apple Set to Unveil iOS 19 at WWDC in June: Major Redesign, New Camera App, and Advanced AI Features Expected

As is customary each year, Apple is expected to unveil its next major operating system update—iOS 19—in June during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). While the company traditionally maintains strict secrecy until the official announcement, leaks and rumors surrounding iOS 19 have been circulating for months and are often accurate.

This announcement will likely include updates to all related Apple operating systems, such as iPadOS for tablets, macOS for desktops and laptops, and watchOS for Apple Watches.

A Bold New Look for iOS

Rumors about Apple’s future products circulate year-round. While many are speculative or based on fan concepts, some come from trusted sources close to the company—such as Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. Gurman previously reported that Apple is planning a comprehensive redesign of iOS 19, potentially the biggest change since iOS 7 in 2013.

According to Gurman, iOS 19’s user interface will draw inspiration from VisionOS, the system powering Apple’s augmented reality headset. Expect livelier, fully rounded icons and increased transparency in interface elements—changes that would unify the look and feel of iOS with Apple’s other platforms.

All-New Camera App

One of the more persistent rumors points to a brand-new Camera app in iOS 19, driven by changes to the external camera button introduced with iPhone 16. The speculation originated with tech journalist John Gruber and was later supported by YouTuber Jon Prosser, who claimed to have seen an early version of the redesigned app.

Prosser’s mockup shows a simplified, more intuitive layout, including transparent menus and rounded UI elements echoing VisionOS aesthetics. This aligns with Gurman’s report of a deeper visual alignment across Apple’s ecosystems.

Enhanced AI Features

AI will reportedly play a much more prominent role in iOS 19. Despite a slow rollout of AI features in iOS 18, Apple seems determined to catch up. According to Gurman, some of the upcoming features may be delayed but are still expected to launch within iOS 19’s lifecycle.

One key feature is a major upgrade to Siri, integrating generative AI capabilities to bring it closer to platforms like ChatGPT. While it’s unclear how advanced the new Siri will be, it’s expected to handle more complex commands and questions with better context awareness.

AI-Driven Health App

Apple continues to invest in health monitoring, and iOS 19 is rumored to include significant upgrades to the Health app. These include AI-based insights and medical suggestions based on the user’s health data. The app may also utilize the iPhone’s camera to analyze workout performance and offer improvement tips.

However, reports suggest these features may not be available at launch and could arrive with iOS 19.4.

Real-Time Translation via AirPods

According to recent leaks, Apple plans to introduce real-time translation through AirPods. This feature will detect foreign languages and translate them on the fly using the iPhone’s built-in Translate app.

It’s unclear if this feature will be exclusive to newer AirPods models or if it will support current versions. Either way, it signals Apple’s growing investment in smarter audio experiences.

Supported Devices

According to French tech site iPhonesoft.fr, iOS 19 will support all devices compatible with iOS 18, which includes:

  • iPhone 16 models
  • iPhone 15 models
  • iPhone 14 models
  • iPhone 13 models
  • iPhone 12 models
  • iPhone 11 models
  • iPhone XS models

However, as seen with iOS 18, some AI features may be limited to newer models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series.

Release Timeline

If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, iOS 19 will be officially announced in June and released publicly in September, alongside the launch of the new iPhone 17. However, some features might roll out gradually in subsequent updates, following the precedent set by iOS 18.
