Ghazouani Oversees the Distribution of the 2024 Chinguitt Prizes
President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani presided over the distribution ceremony of the 2024 Chinguitt Prizes in Nouakchott on Thursday.
Ould Ghazouani awarded the Chinguitt Prize for Islamic Studies to Dr. Sidi Ahmed Al-Ameir for his critical edition of the book “Awḍaḥ al-Masalik ila Fahm Irshad al-Salik”.
He also presented the Chinguitt Prize for Science and Technology to Dr. Zuhair Saleh Naito from Saudi Arabia for his scientific research in public health and dentistry.
Additionally, the Chinguitt Prize for Literature and Arts was awarded to writer Yab Baba Hassan for his novel “Nqous Masoufiya” (Msoufiya Engravings).
Hassan bin Youssef Si, Secretary-General of the Chinguitt Prize Council, stated that since its inception, the Chinguitt Prize has aimed to serve as a hub for fostering scientific research and innovation, inspiring competition among researchers, and encouraging them to contribute effectively.
He added that the award-winning works across its various editions have enriched the scientific and cultural landscape and have played a role in reviving the leading scholarly tradition of Mauritanians, represented by the mahadhir—unique nomadic universities. The Prize aspires to adapt this tradition to contemporary advancements and future challenges.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the Chinguitt Prize is “not just an annual celebration but a reaffirmation of the role of science in achieving development and prosperity.”
