Governor of Guidimakha Inspects the Border Strip of Ghabou with the Republic of Mali

The Governor of Guidimakha, Mr. Dahmane Ould Birok, conducted a field visit on Saturday to the border strip of Ghabou district with the Republic of Mali. He was accompanied by units of the national army and the national gendarmerie. The visit covered 135 kilometers along the shared border between Ghabou and Mali, during which the Governor reviewed the status of border security and management.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency following the visit, the Governor explained that the tour enabled him to closely observe the efforts exerted by administrative and security authorities to ensure the protection and control of the borders. He affirmed that there is effective coordination and synergy among the various government entities involved.
He added: “Our visit included several crossing points where we met with local mayors. We found the security situation to be reassuring—thanks to God, the situation is stable and under control. Our tour extended from Ghabou to Al-Muslim, Chouia No. 3, Dar Essalam, and the municipality of Baydam.”
The Governor noted that he visited these key locations accompanied by members of the armed forces and security personnel, confirming that the situation is calm and normal. He mentioned that guidance was provided to local residents and community leaders to reinforce awareness of the importance of maintaining the region’s safety and stability. He deemed the visit necessary and fruitful, stating that it was well received by the population and yielded several valuable observations and positive outcomes.
Accompanying the Governor on this tour were the Vice President of the Guidimakha Regional Council, Mr. Waly Boubou Adiawara; the Prefect of Ghabou district, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould El Ghassem; Colonel Hamadi Ould Saleh, Commander of the National Gendarmerie in the region; Captain Mohamed Ould Aali Mouloud of the National Army; and a number of military and security officials.
