Governor of L’Gasseba Inaugurates the First L’Kran Festival for Development and Culture

The Governor of L’Gasseba, Mr. Ahmedou Adahi Akhtir, officially inaugurated the first edition of the L’Kran Festival for Development and Culture on Saturday evening in the town of L’Kran, in the Kiffa district. The festival was held under the theme: “Together to Win the Local Development Challenge, Preserve Achievements, and Realize Aspirations.”

Spanning two days, the festival features a diverse program of activities, including exhibitions of traditional crafts and food products, recognition of top performers in Qur’anic studies and national competitions, as well as events in horseback riding, traditional archery, and football. Evening programs combine authentic traditional art with popular folklore, complemented by both classical and popular poetry readings.

Governor’s Remarks

In his speech, Governor Akhtir expressed his pleasure at participating in this cultural event, emphasizing that it reflects the directives of His Excellency the President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aimed at strengthening engagement with citizens, fostering collaboration, and providing welcoming spaces for recreation in local tourist areas.

He also praised the youth of L’Kran for rising to the challenge and actively contributing to the fulfillment of the President’s commitments, noting that this initiative marks the beginning of similar events across the region, which will further support local development programs.

Mayor’s Statement

The Mayor of L’Kran, Ms. Alia Mint Mankous, highlighted that the festival was organized as a voluntary community initiative by local residents, elders, and active civic members. This effort aligns with the President’s guidance to encourage domestic tourism and the preservation of heritage, while strengthening social cohesion and leveraging local developmental resources.

She added that the festival will become an annual tradition, bringing together L’Kran natives from both inside and outside the country to reinforce social bonds and stimulate local development.

Festival Chairman’s Statement

Mr. Mohamed Yahya Ould Aal, Chairman of the Festival, stated that the event is the result of collective dedication and continuous effort, creating a platform to celebrate the town’s heritage and facilitate intergenerational dialogue on its cultural and social values.

He acknowledged the significant support from the Mayor, who oversaw preparations from the beginning, emphasizing the role of culture in promoting local development and responding to the community’s aspirations.

The inauguration was attended by Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Habib, President of L’Gasseba Region, Ali Ahmedou El Houssein, Governor of Kiffa District, alongside regional directors, local officials, and leaders of military and security units in the region.
