Lisa Su: AMD’s Data Center Chip Market Could Reach $1 Trillion by 2030

Lisa Su, Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), predicted that the company’s data center chip market could grow to $1 trillion by 2030.

Speaking during her keynote address at an event held at the Nasdaq Stock Exchange in New York on Tuesday, Su said that artificial intelligence will drive much of this growth, which includes the market for AMD’s central processing units, networking chips, and specialized AI accelerators.

“This is an exciting market… there is no question that the data center represents the biggest growth opportunity, and it is one that AMD is very well positioned to capitalize on,” she said.

The chip designer is seeking to expand its presence in the artificial intelligence sector at a time when rival Nvidia commands a significant share of the data center chip market amid rapid industry growth.

At the same time, AMD has achieved notable success in the CPU market at the expense of its long-standing rival Intel, strengthening its competitive position in the broader computing landscape.

Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang has previously stated that the broader AI infrastructure market could grow to between $3 trillion and $4 trillion by 2030.

Su also highlighted AMD’s recent acquisitions in the AI space, including server builder ZT Systems and several smaller software companies, noting that AMD has built a strong “mergers and acquisitions engine.”

In recent months, AMD has acquired a number of startups focused on developing the software needed to run AI applications. On Monday, AMD announced the acquisition of MK1, further underscoring its accelerated expansion in the artificial intelligence sector.
