Mauritania Signs MoU with Chinese Company to Combat Desertification
Mauritania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with China’s SinoWay First Technology Company to conduct a feasibility study aimed at rehabilitating and reforesting 10,000 hectares within the National Agency for the Great Green Wall.
The agreement focuses on combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, and promoting sustainable development by supporting local communities and creating economic opportunities.
The MoU was signed on behalf of Mauritania by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Massouda Bint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, and on behalf of the Chinese company by its president, Liu Tao.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, desertification affects approximately 84% of Mauritania’s land area, underscoring the critical importance of these efforts to address environmental and economic challenges.
