Minister of Trade and Tourism Launches Regional Workshop in Atar to Promote Tourism and National Identity

Her Excellency the Minister of Trade and Tourism, Mrs. Zeinab Bent Ahmednah, accompanied by the Wāli of the Adrar region, Mr. Abdallah Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, oversaw the opening of a regional workshop on Thursday in the city of Atar. The event was dedicated to presenting the key components of the National Strategy for Tourism Promotion.
In her address, the Minister emphasized that the workshop comes at a critical time in which the Ministry is committed to revitalizing the tourism sector — with a particular focus on domestic tourism — as a cornerstone of sustainable development. She highlighted its role in fostering national unity and reinforcing cultural identity by valuing the country’s environmental and cultural diversity.
She also praised the guidance of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who has encouraged government members and civil servants to spend their holidays within the country — a move that directly contributes to stimulating the local economy and strengthening the younger generation’s connection to their heritage and sense of national pride.
The President of the Regional Council of Adrar, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cherif Ould Abdallah, and the Mayor of Atar, Mr. Ibrahim Ould Abdab, both welcomed this strategic orientation, underscoring its vital role in supporting local development and promoting domestic tourism with its wide-ranging positive impacts.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, the Governor of Atar District, and several administrative and security officials from the region.
