Musk officially announces the final move from Twitter to X.com
Billionaire American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Friday, via the X platform, that “all the core systems” of his social network, formerly known as Twitter, are now operational under the domain name “X.com.” This officially activates the platform’s new identity, as reported by the French news agency.
While the (X) logo appeared in black and white since the end of last July, the website address “Twitter.com” remained functional.
“X.com” was initially the name and website of an online bank founded by Elon Musk in 1999, which later evolved into the online payment service PayPal.
Musk also utilized this symbol for his space company, SpaceX, and the holding company, X Corp, which acquired Twitter, as well as the emerging AI company, xAI, unveiled in mid-July. Musk even named one of his children X AE A-12.
The social network announced on Thursday that “Grok,” the first generative AI model from its subsidiary xAI, capable of humor in its responses, has been available since Thursday in Europe for “+X Premium” subscribers.
The network also stated, “Once the European elections scheduled from June 6 to 9, 2024, are over, we will continue to publish posts in this context for all users.”
Since acquiring Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, Musk has regularly discussed his mysterious project to transform it into a multi-faceted super-app with financial services, akin to WeChat in China.
Since the launch of the generative AI interface “Chat GPT” developed by OpenAI, this technology has become the subject of fierce competition among industry giants, particularly between Microsoft and Google, as well as Meta and emerging companies like Anthropic and Mistral AI.
