Ould Merzouk discusses migration issue with foreign ministers of neighboring countries.

The Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk held phone talks on Saturday with the foreign ministers of four African countries regarding the issue of irregular migration.

The ministry confirmed in a statement that Ould Merzouk made phone calls to the foreign ministers of Côte d’Ivoire, Leon Kakoua Houadja Adom, Senegal, Yacin Fall, Gambia, Mamadou Tangara, and Mali, Abdoulaye Diop.

According to the statement, the minister discussed with his African counterparts “strengthening and intensifying coordination in addressing the challenges related to irregular migration, in compliance with relevant laws and regulations and shared commitments, in line with the historical ties between our brotherly nations based on principles of good neighborliness, hospitality, and solidarity.”

The statement further added: “In the same context, there was a renewed commitment to protecting individual rights and providing a safe and stable environment for all citizens and residents, as well as continuing joint efforts to strengthen cooperation and integration, contributing to sustainable development.”
