Police Arrest Three Minors for Assaulting a Girl in Dar Naim Amid Calls for Stricter Laws
The National Police announced this evening, Sunday, the arrest of three minors suspected of raping a girl in the Dar Naim district (in the capital, Nouakchott) a few days ago.
In a statement seen by Al-Sahara, the police confirmed that the three suspects confessed to the charges against them. Items were seized from their possession, including the victim’s phone, and they have been referred to the juvenile police department.
The police added that the individuals in question are currently in custody at the Northern Juvenile Division and will be referred to the public prosecutor at the beginning of the week.
The rape incident sparked widespread public reaction over the weekend, with calls for holding the perpetrators accountable and enacting stricter laws to protect women.
Close sources to the victim stated that the assault occurred in her home, in front of her elderly, ailing father, whom the suspects threatened with a weapon.
