The National Union of Higher Education praised the spirit of consensus that marked the election of its president, department heads, members, and departmental delegates ahead of its upcoming eighth congress, scheduled for May 3.
In a statement issued on Saturday, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency, the union said the elections were held in an atmosphere of unprecedented harmony and agreement, reflecting general satisfaction with the achievements made for university professors in recent years. This atmosphere, the union added, will contribute to the continued success of its union activities aimed at improving the conditions of faculty members.
On Saturday, the union elected Professor Anane Ould El Mamy as its new president. He received 453 votes out of 468, while the remaining 15 votes were neutral.
The union also noted that a spirit of consensus prevailed in the election of the other governing bodies.
