The President of the Republic Receives the Annual Report of the National Observatory for the Rights of Women and Girls

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received today, Monday, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, the annual report of the National Observatory for the Rights of Women and Girls. The report was presented during a special reception granted to the Head of the Observatory, Mrs. Mahla Ahmed Talebna.
Following the meeting, the Head of the Observatory stated that she had submitted to His Excellency the President the 2024 annual report of the Observatory, which addresses the status of women’s and girls’ rights in the country.
She added that the report included a comprehensive overview of all activities carried out during the past year, as well as the multidimensional challenges facing the Observatory. These challenges constitute obstacles to achieving the objectives set by the country’s highest authorities, foremost among them being the issue of weak coordination between government bodies responsible for promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls.
She pointed out that no public institution can successfully fulfill its assigned tasks without government sectors striving to strengthen the principle of governmental solidarity and providing support from specialized agencies to human rights institutions. She described the report as comprising a set of proposals and recommendations directed at the executive, legislative, and judicial authorities aimed at improving social justice.
