Adrar Governor Chairs Regional Education Committee Meeting to Review 2024-2025 Academic Year

The Governor of Adrar, Mr. Abdullah Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, chaired a meeting of the Regional Committee for Education and Educational System Reform today, Wednesday, in Atar. The meeting aimed to assess the state of education in the region during the 2024-2025 academic year.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, the governor emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the educational process over the past months, identify strengths and weaknesses, and propose measures to improve school performance in the coming year.
He noted that the baccalaureate success rate in the region reached 31%, particularly in the Mathematics and Literature tracks. However, the success rate in the Natural Sciences track declined due to a shortage of organized remedial lessons.
Addressing Challenges and Shortcomings
The meeting discussed several challenges, including the need to expedite the completion of new school buildings to address overcrowding, as well as the importance of increasing the number of French language teachers.
The governor highlighted that the past academic year was notable for no shortage of teachers, no significant absenteeism, and no classroom deficits.
The committee also made several recommendations, including enhanced training for the use of the “Siraj” platform to ensure effective utilization by school principals.
Strengthening Local and Community Involvement
The governor stressed the importance of activating the roles of local authorities, municipalities, and the Parents’ Association by providing additional support, such as maintenance, cleaning, and security staff. The meeting also emphasized the need to establish a monitoring system for students, assess schools’ access to water and electricity, and identify the responsible parties for covering related costs.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Director of the Governor’s Office, Governor of Atar District, Deputy Mayor, and all members of the Regional Committee for Education and Educational System Reform.
