Death of former boxer Moussa, winner of the first Olympic medal in Algeria’s history
The Algerian Olympic Committee mourned the passing of former boxer Mustafa Moussa, who was the first Algerian to win an Olympic medal. He died today, Saturday, at the age of 62, after battling complications from injuries sustained in a car accident.
The Olympic Committee stated in a press release: “With deep sadness and acceptance of God’s will, we received the news of the passing of the late champion boxer Mustafa Moussa.”
The statement continued: “In light of this grave loss, we extend our sincerest and deepest condolences. We ask Almighty God to grant the deceased His vast mercy, to place him in eternal paradise, and to grant his family, relatives, and the entire sports community patience and solace.”
Moussa won a bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He had been involved in a car accident a few months ago, which led to severe head injuries and required intensive care. After passing the critical phase, he was transferred to a rehabilitation center in Oran before his passing today.
The late boxer had a distinguished record of achievements, including a gold medal at the 1982 Military World Games, a gold medal at the 1983 Mediterranean Games, a gold medal at the 1985 Arab Games, and a bronze medal at the 1987 African Games.
