Luis Enrique Backs Temporary Dismissals and Calls for Innovation in Football

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has expressed support for the introduction of temporary dismissals in football, a system that would see players sent off the pitch for a limited period after committing certain fouls.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the Spanish coach was asked about his stance on the proposed “orange card” system, which would suspend a player from the match for 20 minutes. Enrique said football must continue to explore new ideas, stressing the importance of constant evolution as long as there is room for improvement.
He emphasized that such changes could help promote a more attacking, entertaining style of play that is more appealing to fans.
Enrique also recalled a past remark by former UEFA president Michel Platini, who once suggested that matches should be played with 10 players instead of 11, noting that ideas like these can have a significant impact when analyzed in depth.
The PSG coach added that he is always open to discovering new concepts that could enhance the game.
A similar system already exists in rugby, where players are temporarily sent off the field for 10 minutes after committing an infringement.
