Opening of the 13th Heritage Cities Festival in Chinguetti, Mauritania
The 13th edition of the Heritage Cities Festival kicked off today, Friday, in the city of Chinguetti, northern Mauritania.
The festival was inaugurated in the presence of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, his government members, opposition leader Hamadi Ould Sid El Mokhtar, in addition to politicians, diplomats, and international participants.
The festival features various exhibitions, some specializing in traditional products, while others showcase models of historical libraries in Chinguetti.
Earlier, the Minister of Culture, Arts, and Relations with Parliament, and the government spokesman, Hussein Ould Amdou, stated that “with this festival, the residents of the city will not face difficulties in accessing water and electricity,” explaining that the development component, funded with 4 billion, would “address the issues faced by the city’s residents.”
The festival’s opening featured musical and folkloric performances, which are expected to continue throughout the five-day event.
