Samsung has announced plans to develop a groundbreaking feature for wearable health-tracking devices, particularly smartwatches, that will enable blood sugar monitoring without the need for skin pricking.

A Sensor Algorithm for Early Diabetes Detection

Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung, explained that the company is working on an advanced sensor algorithm designed to aid in the early detection of diabetes symptoms.

Pak stated:
“Diabetes patients traditionally rely on devices that require skin pricking to obtain blood samples. Our goal is to eliminate this necessity by introducing a new method that allows easy blood sugar monitoring without drawing blood.”

Integrating Innovation with AI

He further emphasized that Samsung is focused on enhancing its capabilities in disease prevention, particularly for cardiovascular and metabolic conditions, by developing advanced technologies for glucose level measurement. The company is also working on a continuous glucose monitoring system combined with personalized dietary guidance, leveraging its expertise in sensor technology and artificial intelligence.
