The European Union provides the Mauritanian army with drones.
The European Union intends to support the capabilities of the Mauritanian army by providing it with a range of drones used for surveillance and reconnaissance.
According to what was reported by “Africa Intelligence,” the Expertise France Foundation, which operates the French Development Agency (AFD), has launched a call for tenders aimed at supplying the Mauritanian army with a set of surveillance drone systems, along with another system for the Chadian forces.
This assistance will be funded through the lifting of restrictions on significant aid that was originally intended for the five Sahel countries (G5) seven years ago but was later frozen due to specific circumstances.
These funds will now be directed to Chad and Mauritania, following the withdrawal of Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali from the G5 Sahel group.
The value of this aid is approximately 40 million euros, primarily allocated for purchasing military equipment to enhance the defense capabilities of the Mauritanian and Chadian armies.
