Visit of the Minister of Equipment and Transport to monitor the progress of road infrastructure projects between Boumdeid and Tidjikja

His Excellency the Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mr. Ali Ould Al-Firk, conducted a field inspection visit today, Saturday, to the road linking the cities of Boumdeid and Tidjikja. This visit is part of a broader tour covering several national road infrastructure projects to assess the progress of works.
Accompanying the Minister was the Governor of the Tagant region, Mr. Mohamed Ould Ahmed Mouloud. The inspection included two road sections: Boumdeid–Qadiya and Qadiya–Tidjikja. Technical teams from the executing companies provided detailed presentations on the stages and nature of the works, emphasizing adherence to quality standards and timelines stipulated in the contracts — points that the Minister stressed during his meetings with them.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency following the visit, the Minister explained that this field tour covers six road sections, including Alak–Lahjar and Jouk–Kiffa on the Hope Road, where completion rates have exceeded 90%.
Regarding the Tidjikja–Qadiya section, which spans 80 kilometers, the Minister noted that embankment works have been completed over 60 kilometers, with water structures constructed and substantial rock breaking carried out. The work is progressing steadily.
As for the Boumdeid–Qadiya section, totaling 75 kilometers, the Minister revealed that the contract with the previous Chinese company was terminated, and a new company has been contracted and commenced field operations. Embankment works there have also reached 60 kilometers. This segment is considered the most challenging part of the project. The Minister confirmed the availability of all necessary equipment and machinery, setting June 2026 as the final deadline for completion.
He acknowledged some delays in the projects but affirmed that corrective measures have been implemented to mitigate setbacks, expressing hope for timely completion.
The Minister emphasized that these site visits align with the government’s policy of continuous, direct monitoring of road infrastructure projects, which currently number 30, aiming to track progress and promptly address obstacles to avoid any delays.
The visit was attended by, in addition to the Minister and the Governor of Tagant, the Prefect of Tidjikja District, Mr. Moulay Ismail Ould Al-Murtaji; the Administrative Chief of Qadiya; the Mayor of Boubkour Ben Amer Municipality; leaders of security and military agencies in the region; and several senior officials from the Ministry of Equipment and Transport.
