Atletico Madrid Files Complaint Against Real Madrid Players to UEFA for Unsportsmanlike Behavior

Atletico Madrid has formally lodged a complaint with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) against several Real Madrid players, accusing them of inappropriate behavior during the second-leg match of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Real Madrid advanced to the quarter-finals after winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout against their local rivals, Atletico Madrid, at the Wanda Metropolitano. The match was followed by loud celebrations from Real Madrid players, but some of these actions were deemed unsportsmanlike by Atletico Madrid, prompting them to file a complaint with UEFA.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid submitted four video clips to UEFA documenting inappropriate conduct from Vinicius Jr., Dani Ceballos, and Kylian Mbappé. However, the most serious footage features German defender Antonio Rudiger, who was seen making a throat-cutting gesture toward Atletico’s supporters.

Atletico’s complaint references past instances where UEFA imposed sanctions on players for similar behavior, urging the governing body to take disciplinary action against the Real Madrid stars involved.

It is noteworthy that UEFA previously sanctioned Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone for his controversial celebrations against Juventus, leading the “Rojiblancos” management to insist on fairness and the consistent application of the rules.
