The Public Prosecution recommends enhancing the fight against illegal immigration and drug-related crimes.

The third annual meeting of public prosecution members concluded in Nouakchott, addressing ways to enhance the judicial handling of illegal immigration and drug-related crimes.
In a speech on behalf of the participants, the Public Prosecutor of the Nouakchott West region, Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Ihah, emphasized that the meeting provided an important opportunity for sharing experiences and strengthening coordination between the judicial and security bodies. He expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Minister of Justice, and the Attorney General of the Supreme Court for their continuous support of the justice system.
Ould Ihah pointed out that the meeting included in-depth discussions on the policies adopted to address illegal immigration and drug-related crimes, reflecting the progress in the approach and interaction between the participants. He also highlighted that the participation of senior officials from the Ministry of Justice, security agencies, including representatives from the National Gendarmerie, National Police, National Guard, National Documents and Security Agency, and the Digitalization Sector, added a practical dimension and greater credibility to the discussions, enabling the public prosecution to effectively utilize these outcomes in its daily work.
He stressed that the participants are committed to implementing the recommendations of the meeting and working to remove obstacles that hinder achieving effective justice in addressing these challenges, emphasizing the importance of close coordination between the public prosecution and security agencies to enhance the effectiveness of combating illegal immigration and drug crimes.
The third annual public prosecution meeting began on Monday at the Nouakchott Conference Palace, under the supervision of Minister of Justice Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Sheikh Abdullah Ben Bayyah, who, in his opening speech, affirmed that organizing this forum had become an institutional tradition to strengthen consultations and coordination between public prosecution members, allowing for more effective handling of priority cases, particularly illegal immigration and drug-related crimes.
The meeting featured specialized discussion sessions focusing on the judicial handling of human trafficking and migrant smuggling cases, the role of the specialized court in these matters, and tracking the proceeds of organized crime linked to illegal immigration and migrant smuggling.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to implement the outcomes of the discussions and the recommendations agreed upon, ensuring the strengthening of the public prosecution’s role in combating organized crime and protecting society from the risks of illegal immigration and drug-related crimes, within the framework of close coordination between the judiciary and security agencies.
