Real Madrid defeats Dortmund and wins the Champions League title for the 15th time in its history

Real Madrid clinched the UEFA Champions League title in football after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final match held yesterday at Wembley Stadium. It took Real Madrid 74 minutes to break the resilience of their German opponents, with right-back Dani Carvajal scoring the opening goal with a header after a corner kick taken by midfielder Toni Kroos. In the 83rd minute, Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior added the second goal after a pass from his English teammate Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid extended their record by winning the Champions League title for the 15th time in their history, and the sixth time in the last 11 years. Borussia Dortmund, currently fifth in the German league this season, settled for their lone Champions League title achieved in 1997, and suffered their second consecutive final defeat at Wembley after losing to Bayern Munich in the 2013 final.

Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of Real Madrid, led the team to their third title this year after winning the league and Spanish Super Cup. Ancelotti became the most successful manager in terms of Champions League titles, with five titles to his name, including two with Milan in 2003 and 2007, and three with Real Madrid in 2014, 2022, and 2024.

Real Madrid trio, Luka Modric, Nacho Fernandez, and Carvajal, lifted the iconic trophy for the sixth time in their careers with the club, while Toni Kroos celebrated the European title in his final match with Real Madrid before his departure at the end of the season.
