Governor of Tagant Chairs Regional Environmental Committee Meeting and Launches Awareness Campaign to Protect Vegetation and Livestock

Tagant Governor, Mr. Mohamed Ould Ahmed Mouloud, chaired a meeting of the Regional Environmental Committee today, Wednesday, at his office, two weeks after the committee’s inauguration at the regional level to strengthen efforts in environmental protection and sustainable development.

In his address, the Governor highlighted the committee as a significant addition to the network of regional committees, emphasizing the crucial role of the environmental sector in the economic and social development of the region. He noted that the meeting marks the official launch of awareness campaigns to protect pastures and preserve livestock, which are key pillars of the national economy, stressing that vegetation preservation is essential to maintaining this vital resource.

Mr. Ould Ahmed Mouloud underlined the importance of organizing extensive awareness campaigns targeting herders, farmers, and all citizens, encouraging them to take responsibility for protecting the region’s vegetation, which has been generously provided by nature this year.

He also explained that these campaigns require concrete measures, including the construction of protective mechanical roads to be implemented soon by “Asnat” company as part of a previously completed 70-kilometer maintenance program, in addition to handmade roads by village committees, and the enforcement of legal provisions to monitor and penalize individuals responsible for starting fires.

The Governor stressed that vegetation protection is a collective responsibility, requiring the participation of everyone according to their role and capacity.

During the meeting, participants emphasized the value of establishing the committee and the importance of coordinated efforts to implement its awareness and monitoring tasks effectively.

The meeting was attended by administrative authorities, heads of technical departments, local elected officials, and representatives from civil society, reflecting the collaborative approach to environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources in Tagant.
