Senegalese Photographer Captures Match From Hotel TV After Visa Denial

Senegalese photographer Sidi Tala has gone viral after documenting his national team’s match against Iraq in an unconventional way, following the refusal of Canadian authorities to grant him a visa despite being part of the team’s official media staff.

Tala shared a video on Instagram showing him inside a hotel room in the United States, wearing his FIFA-accredited photographer vest and using his camera to take pictures of the match directly from a television screen, replicating his usual pitch-side work.

After the game ended, he posted the images he captured, writing: “On or off the pitch, passion remains pure.”

The story quickly spread across social media, where many users praised his determination and professionalism, describing it as a powerful example of how passion can persist despite travel restrictions and logistical barriers.

Reports indicated that the visa refusal did not affect Tala alone, but also included the Senegal national team’s social media manager. However, video photographer Elias Bams was able to travel with the squad due to holding a French passport.

Despite being unable to attend the stadium, Tala continued his work from the hotel room, using the TV broadcast as his visual source while capturing images with his camera. The resulting photos drew widespread admiration, with many noting the surprising level of quality achieved under such unusual circumstances, turning his story into a widely shared example of creativity and perseverance beyond the traditional limits of sports coverage.
