Tensions Escalate Between Javier Tebas and Real Madrid Over Nazi Propaganda Allegations

The war of words between Javier Tebas, president of Spain’s LaLiga, and Real Madrid’s management has intensified, sparking widespread debate across social media platforms. The latest confrontation centers on sharp exchanges over criticism of Spanish refereeing and the way the club has challenged decisions on the pitch.

The dispute escalated after Tebas accused Real Madrid of using propaganda tactics resembling those associated with Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels in its campaign against referees. The club responded by formally demanding Tebas’s immediate dismissal, highlighting the depth of a conflict that has persisted for years.

Accusations and Calls for Tebas to Step Down

Tebas triggered widespread controversy with a post comparing Real Madrid’s approach to criticizing referees with Nazi propaganda methods based on systematic repetition, creating an enemy, and shaping facts to fit a particular narrative.

Real Madrid described his remarks as “extremely serious” and called for his removal from the presidency of LaLiga, as well as from his position within the Spanish Football Federation.

Tebas, meanwhile, responded dismissively to the calls for his departure, arguing that similar demands had been made for 12 years and had become a routine feature of his ongoing dispute with the club. This came despite his repeated claims that he has supported Real Madrid since childhood.

A Long-Running Dispute Over Spanish Refereeing

The latest confrontation comes amid tensions that intensified after Real Madrid lost 2–1 to city rivals Atletico Madrid in September. Following the defeat, the club described the refereeing performance as “disastrous.”

Real Madrid also compiled a 500-page dossier documenting what it considers refereeing errors. Tebas, however, rejected the narrative that the club was the target of a refereeing conspiracy, suggesting that those who embraced such claims were living in a world detached from reality.

The dispute has also spilled into the stands. During Real Madrid’s most recent match against Sevilla, supporters of the club, coached by Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, displayed a blue-and-red banner reading: “This is not football… it is Tebas and Negreira.” The slogan referred to the wider controversy surrounding Spanish refereeing and related institutional relationships.

Social Media Reactions Reveal a Divided Fan Base

Comments circulating on social media reflected sharply contrasting views of the conflict between Tebas and Real Madrid’s management, according to the program Shabakat in its October 19, 2026, episode.

One commenter, Shaimaa, compared the dispute to a family feud that begins behind closed doors before escalating into a public confrontation and eventually reaching the courts, despite outward displays of affection.

She wrote: “They are like a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law—a never-ending war. It starts behind the scenes, then the whole neighborhood hears about it, and of course, it ends up in court. Each one used to tell the other, ‘You’re dear to me,’ just like Tebas does.”

Another commenter, Bilal, criticized Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, arguing that his policies had damaged the club’s image. He called on the leadership to address its internal problems rather than focusing solely on its dispute with Tebas.

“Perez has turned Real Madrid into a very insignificant club. As a Madrid supporter, I believe he should focus on the club’s main problems. Tebas is not wrong about everything. It is clear that the club is declining,” Bilal wrote.

Corruption Allegations and Criticism of Club Leadership

Luqman launched a fierce attack on the LaLiga president, accusing him of corruption and harming both the league and the Spanish football federation. He also blamed Tebas for what he views as a decline in Spanish refereeing standards.

“Tebas is corrupt, a fraud, a liar and a bribe-taker. He must be removed. He has ruined the federation, LaLiga and the referees, and because of him, Spanish referees have been prevented from officiating in the competition,” Luqman wrote.

Meanwhile, Amir expressed frustration with the repeated confrontations and public statements exchanged by the two sides. He urged Real Madrid supporters to take action to end what he described as an administrative farce under Perez’s leadership.

The range of reactions illustrates how the dispute between Tebas and Real Madrid has expanded beyond official statements to encompass supporters and online discussions. With refereeing decisions and the governance of Spanish football remaining central points of contention, the conflict continues to fuel debate among fans.
