During the opening session of the G20 ministerial meeting on tourism, the advisor to President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Ahmed Moulay, emphasized the need to establish innovative financing mechanisms that support climate adaptation while preserving natural heritage.
Moulay highlighted that cultural heritage and traditional knowledge systems are invaluable assets that should be utilized for development, as they can serve as a source of income for the local economy.
In his address at the meeting held in Brazil, he noted that the growth of the tourism sector in Africa depends on the availability of sustainable, world-class infrastructure. He stressed that the continent aims to achieve this through increased investments that prioritize environmental sustainability and enhance development in tourism infrastructure projects.
Moulay also pointed out that the goals of green and inclusive tourism can only be realized by mobilizing additional resources and strengthening cooperation between countries. He advocated for the creation of cross-border tourism corridors that would bolster regional economies and enhance Africa’s status as a global tourism destination.
