The Higher Council for Education opens the second workshop of its reflection season.

The Higher Council for Education opened the second workshop of its 2024 reflection season today, which will last for three days.

Council President Ibrahim Fall Mohamed Al-Amin stated that the workshop is part of a series of dialogue meetings introduced by the council as part of its 2024 reflection season. He added that these meetings aim to attract “key figures with expertise, knowledge, and experience, as well as stakeholders and beneficiaries in the educational field.”

Al-Amin spoke about “expanding the consultation circle through this intellectual space with this group, so that their scientific contributions can be a qualitative addition to the council’s activities, including its research papers and advisory opinions that serve the implementation of reforms in our educational system.”

He clarified that the workshop is being held while the Mauritanian people are still celebrating the National Independence Day, and the educational system is commemorating the National School Day. He emphasized that “education reform has always been and continues to be a primary priority for the President.”

The council president also noted that the workshop coincides with Mauritania hosting a continental education conference, which has drawn attention from all of Africa and international partners.

He mentioned that the workshop will feature five presentations covering various topics such as: the Atlas of National Languages, the reference framework for educational programs, private education, pathways in secondary education, and levels of both secondary and basic education.

He confirmed that these “presentations complement those made at the beginning of the season in previous months, which were a key foundation for the council’s opinions on compulsory education and bridging the gap between formal and non-formal education.”

He expressed hope that the discussions would generate important ideas and opinions that would greatly influence the council’s opinions in this field, affirming that “it will support and strengthen the societal transformation that we aim for through this reform.”
