Nouakchott: Islamic Coalition Launches Training on Countering Terrorist Financing
Training Workshop on Countering Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering Kicks Off in Nouakchott
The Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, today hosted the commencement of a training workshop organized by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) under the theme: “The Risks of Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering and Methods to Combat Them.”
The three-day program aims to enhance the capabilities of professionals combating terrorist financing and money laundering, equipping them with the necessary tools to detect and counter illicit activities using advanced methodologies.
High-Level Participation
The workshop gathers prominent figures from Mauritania’s judicial and financial sectors, including judges, prosecutors, court presidents, and directors of financial institutions.
The program is led by Dr. Salem bin Said Bahamam, an international expert in governance, compliance, and countering terrorist financing and money laundering.
Comprehensive Training Modules
The training agenda encompasses four main topics:
- Understanding the risks of terrorist financing and money laundering.
- Identifying vulnerabilities and recognizing suspicious activity indicators.
- Regulatory frameworks and international standards.
- Advanced methods for countering terrorism financing and money laundering.
Broader IMCTC Program in the Sahel Region
On December 1st, during a conference held in Nouakchott, the IMCTC announced the launch of its five-year program for the Sahel Five countries (Mauritania, Mali, Chad, Niger, and Burkina Faso).
The program includes 239 activities, focusing on the coalition’s key areas: intellectual, media, military, and combating terrorist financing.
Background of the IMCTC
The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition was established in December 2015 at the initiative of Saudi Arabia, aiming to unify the efforts of Islamic countries in combating terrorism. The coalition currently comprises 42 member states.
