Governor of Adrar Oversees Consultative Meeting on Oasis Development

The Governor of Adrar, Mr. Abdallahi Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, on Sunday in the city of Atar, oversaw a consultative meeting focused on the development of oases in the region. The event was attended by the Legal Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Fallily Mohamed Ibrahim.

In his opening remarks, the Governor emphasized that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, attaches great importance to local development, particularly the development of oases, as they represent one of the most vital economic activities in the Adrar region.

He noted that the Oasis Development Project is undergoing a renewed dynamic built on assessing past experiences to enhance production and meet the needs of the local population. He called on participants to put forward practical proposals that can help overcome obstacles and achieve comprehensive development.

For his part, the minister’s advisor stated that the meeting is part of a participatory approach aimed at addressing challenges hindering the performance of oasis cooperative networks. He emphasized that involving civil society reflects the President’s vision of inclusive development across social, economic, and cultural levels.

The National Coordinator of the Oasis Development Project, Mr. Mohamedou Ould Mohamed El Ghadhaf, reviewed the relationship between the project and the cooperative associations, highlighting their role as non-governmental entities operating under internal regulations that define their powers and working mechanisms.

The President of the Adrar Regional Council, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cherif Ould Abdallah, and the Deputy Mayor of Atar Municipality, Mrs. Malika Bint Ebaba, both commended the organization of the meeting. They stressed the need to support farmers and strengthen their capacities to achieve sustainable economic and social development in the region.

The meeting featured interventions that focused on key legal and regulatory challenges facing oasis development. It was attended by district administrators, municipal mayors, the regional director of agriculture, heads of cooperative associations, farmers, and several local stakeholders.
