Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Reviews Draft Laws on Development Financing Agreements

The Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly held a meeting on Saturday evening, chaired by Mrs. Khadijetou Abdallahi Wane, Vice President of the Committee. The session was dedicated to an in-depth review of several draft laws related to financing agreements signed between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank.
The committee’s agenda included the examination of the following draft laws:
- A draft law authorizing the ratification of the loan agreement signed on May 28, 2025, between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank, allocated to finance the “Rural Resilience Enhancement Project in Mauritania” through the management and development of water resources for domestic, productive, and environmental purposes.
- A draft law authorizing the ratification of the loan agreement signed on May 21, 2025, between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank, dedicated to financing the “Vocational Training Improvement and Youth Employment Project.”
- A draft law authorizing the ratification of a framework agreement (using deferred sale financing), also signed on May 21, 2025, between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank, also designated to finance the aforementioned vocational training and youth employment project.
During the session, the committee listened to a presentation by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Abah, who highlighted the key objectives of these draft laws and their importance in supporting development. He emphasized that the agreements represent a significant pillar in strengthening rural development, enhancing vocational training, and promoting youth employment—contributing to sustainable economic growth
