Mauritania Holds Sixth Ministerial Committee Meeting on Essential Goods Supply

The Prime Minister, Mohamed Ould Bilal, chaired the sixth regular meeting of the Ministerial Committee responsible for monitoring the supply of essential goods today, Wednesday, at the Prime Minister’s Office. The meeting aligns with the high directives of President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, aimed at ensuring steady market supply and price stability.
As in previous sessions, the meeting was attended by leaders of political parties and heads of trade unions.
At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed the committee’s agenda and provided a brief overview of the committee’s establishment, the context in which it operates, and its achievements. The committee’s work relies on a methodology of detailed data analysis, field information gathering, and formulation of appropriate recommendations to ensure effective intervention.
Each minister provided a comprehensive assessment of the supply of essential goods. Indicators showed that the availability of basic foodstuffs is reassuring and satisfactory, with continued enforcement of price caps and measures to prevent speculation, thereby protecting citizens’ purchasing power.
Regarding fuels, evaluations indicated that stock levels are sufficient to cover a significant period. The committee also emphasized the continuation of strict measures to curb smuggling and prevent monopolistic practices or price speculation, especially given persistently high global energy prices.
The meeting also addressed the transport sector, with data showing stable prices for both passenger and freight transport.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister affirmed that the government will take all necessary measures to safeguard the availability of essential goods. He also called for continued strengthening of monitoring mechanisms to ensure price stability and prevent speculation, while maintaining oversight of cross-border trade to preserve national market stability.
