The Chamber of Appeals in the Court of Appeal in Nouakchott rejected the appeal presented by the former Senator and President of the Comprehensive Transparency Organization, Mohamed Weld Ghadd, regarding his referral to court. The Chamber decided to dismiss the appeal related to the decision of the investigating judge at the Sixth Chamber to refer Weld Ghadd to the Criminal Court in form.
Weld Ghadd had filed an appeal against the decision of his referral by the investigating judge to the Chamber of Appeals, stating in a statement issued by him that he does not accept “anything less than that there is no ground for prosecution.” Weld Ghadd expressed his hope to find in the upcoming stages of litigation what he seeks in terms of “judicial independence,” confirming his rejection of the decision of the investigating judge at the Sixth Chamber and its “strange justifications” regarding the retaliatory lawsuit they face due to their anti-corruption activities. Weld Ghadd emphasized in the statement issued in his name that he was surprised that the judge “began his justifications by saying that I did not provide evidence and that I only discussed the documents of the complaining party.”
