Five million dollars in American support for Malian refugees in Mauritania.

The United States has provided $5 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Mauritania to contribute to the implementation of an emergency plan for refugees in the Eastern Region. The funding, delivered through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, was announced during a meeting on Tuesday morning attended by Elizabeth Easter, the representative of UNHCR in Mauritania, and Cynthia Kirsch, the U.S. Ambassador to Nouakchott.

During the meeting, a short documentary was presented highlighting the housing conditions provided by Mauritania and its partners for Malian refugees in the Eastern Region.

This funding will support the efforts of UNHCR to address the needs of Malian refugees and host communities in the Eastern Region.
