Ministry of Justice: We Have Completed the Construction of 4 Courthouses, 12 Courts, and a Prison
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice Highlights Progress in Judicial Infrastructure Development
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice, Mohamed Ahmed Aida, announced the completion of four courthouses, 12 district courts, and a correctional facility in southern Nouakchott. He confirmed that the inauguration of these facilities will take place soon.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Boutilimit District Court building, the Secretary-General highlighted additional achievements, including the renovation of several courts, courthouses, and correctional institutions. He noted that construction is ongoing for a new courthouse and a district court in the Moughataa of El Mina as part of the “Justice Reform Support Program.”
Aida expressed his pride in inaugurating the new court as part of the activities commemorating the 64th anniversary of independence, a historic occasion symbolizing freedom, justice, and development.
He emphasized that ensuring and enhancing judicial infrastructure is a cornerstone of the strategies and policies established by the Ministry of Justice since President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani assumed office.
The Secretary-General extended his gratitude to all donors and development partners, particularly the European Union, for their continued support. He expressed hope for sustained collaboration to advance the National Justice Reform and Development Framework and to support major judicial reforms.
He also praised the efforts of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), technical teams, and the implementing company for adhering to high standards and quality specifications.
The Boutilimit District Court was constructed as part of the infrastructure component of the PARJ project (Justice Reform Support Project), implemented by UNOPS.
