Trarza Governor: The Region Has Become the “Breadbasket of the Nation”

The Wali (Governor) of the Trarza region, Mohamed Ould Ahmed Mouloud, stated that the region has become the “breadbasket of the nation,” explaining that it provides 80% of the country’s rice needs, tens of thousands of tons of vegetables annually, and over 60 tons of milk per day, most of which is sold to dairy factories in Nouakchott.

In an interview with the Mauritanian News Agency in Trarza, the governor added that the region has had “a significant impact on increasing the added value to the national economy and improving the living standards of its residents.”

He pointed out that “the area suitable for farming in the region is estimated at 80,000 hectares, of which 50,000 hectares have been reclaimed.”

Regarding the achievements of the region, the governor mentioned the agricultural electrification project, which will be inaugurated tomorrow, Monday. He also highlighted agricultural reclamation, the removal of isolation from farms, cleaning of water channels, livestock vaccination campaigns, provision of veterinary medicines, the construction and equipping of educational and health facilities, provision of medical and teaching staff, clean drinking water, and the construction of paved roads.

He also mentioned the completion of the “Ramadan” and “Kilometer 7” stadiums in Rosso.

Additionally, Ould Ahmed Mouloud talked about the support provided to patients with kidney failure, people with disabilities, and associations working in the field of disability, as well as funding income-generating programs for women’s cooperatives and people with special needs, the provision of fish and feed at symbolic prices, and free cash distributions.
