Police: We Arrested a Human Trafficking Network and Foiled a Smuggling Operation

The General Directorate of Security announced the arrest of a human trafficking network involving three foreigners from an Asian country, and the thwarting of a smuggling operation that was set to transport 125 irregular migrants of the same nationality as the traffickers.

The Directorate stated in a statement that the Central Office for the Fight Against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking, in cooperation with Police Station No. 3 in the Tevragh Zeina district, successfully arrested the network and foiled the operation after thorough surveillance and investigation.

The police confirmed that the operation led to the arrest of all members of the network, as well as the 125 migrants who were set to embark on an irregular migration journey to Europe across the Atlantic Ocean.

The police also reported that the equipment for the journey was seized from a house in the “City Beach” neighborhood in Nouakchott. The seized items included 62 containers of gasoline (60 liters each), a boat engine, several life jackets, sailor clothing, and travel bags containing some supplies.

The Directorate confirmed that the Central Office for the Fight Against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking is currently investigating the members of the network, with plans to refer them to the prosecution along with the seized items.
